The flu vaccine is your best defense against the flu. It may prevent you from getting sick altogether, and it will lessen your symptoms if you do get the flu. If you are over 65 and/or have a chronic medical condition (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease) it can help you avoid serious complications.
According to the CDC, you should get a flu vaccine before flu viruses begin spreading in your community, since it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against flu. Make plans to get vaccinated early in fall, before flu season begins. CDC recommends that people get a flu vaccine by the end of October.
DMC offers pediatric, adult, and high-dose flu shots, as well as a preservative-free option. Please call our main number at 603-537-1300 to schedule a nurse visit at one of our offices or to get on the list for one of DMC’s Drive-Through Flu Clinics (Derry) on specified Saturdays. The flu vaccine does NOT cause the flu. You can learn facts about the flu shot HERE.
