Need a Specialist? The Choice is Yours.
Since DMC Primary Care is an independent medical practice accepting most major insurance plans, you and your physician decide together where you will receive the best care if you need to see a specialist.
We work closely with patients in selecting specialists, making choices based on specific medical needs, pre-existing relationships, convenience, insurance requirements, and other personal preferences.
Our patients are often referred to Parkland Medical Center, Catholic Medical Center, and the Elliot Health System, as well as regional facilities such as Lahey Clinic, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
The choice is yours, whether you need hospitalization or an office consultation with a specialist.
If your insurance company requires a referral, please call our referral team at 603-537-1300 (option 4). When leaving a voicemail, please leave the following information:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Telephone number
- Primary care physician
- Specialist name (first and last)
- Specialist Location (address)
- Specialist phone number
- Date of appointment
- Reason for visit
Your referral will be delayed if:
- Your request was not generated from a recent visit. In this event your request would have to be forwarded to your provider for approval.
- You receive a written referral form from your provider during a visit and it is not dropped off at the front desk at checkout. All written referrals need to be forwarded to the referral coordinator for processing.
All referrals are subject to the restrictions/conditions imposed by the insurance company.
Once your referral is complete, it will be forwarded to the specialist. Depending on the insurance company, it may take up to 10 days for a referral to be fully processed and forwarded to the specialist’s office. Many insurance companies must approve our request for a referral, assign a referral authorization number, and forward that information to the specialist. Our staff is very conscientious in processing referrals as expeditiously as possible.
